DAY 1: DAY 2: DAY 3: Talk about the trip of a lifetime! I could not have had a better first time in New York City. This post has taken me a long time to write because I wanted it to really express how much I fell in love with the City that never sleeps.
DAY 1: Our trip started out at 3:45 AM to catch our 6 AM flight... We were in New York by 8:30 and as soon as we dropped our bags off at the hotel and put on our jackets (because it was freezing) we were off sight seeing. Trying to navigate the subway and how to use a metro card was interesting but thankfully it only took all four of us to figure it out LOL... We saw the Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, the New York Stock Exchage, the Statue of liberty, 9/11 memorial (talk about breathtaking) and the Freedom tower. Even though I had blisters under every single toe and my heels were bruised from the amount of walking we did it was totally worth it to have visited all of the major location and landmarks. We had to go out since it was our first night in NY and little did we know that the bars didn't close until 4 in the morning!! We were up for more than 24 hours straight (HOLY WOW). DAY 2: It started early with breakfast at The Empire State Building and the mimosas were so good they were almost worth the 12$ we spent on them... When in Rome they say. The sights from the 86th floor were INCREDIBLE! Now getting to the 86th floor... not so much. It was like waiting in line for an amusement ride and then it only takes you to the 80th floor and because we thought we were young resilient females we thought walking the next 6 floors would be a piece of cake and would be way faster than the long line for the elevator. Boy were we wrong... having walked so much the day prior we were all gasping for air and laughing so hard we were almost in tears because if we weren't laughing we for sure would have been crying. Shopping was next on the agenda and I made sure to have on my cutest outfit... even though I was probably going to catch pneumonia. And as some would like to call it, splurged... as my mother would like to call it, I emptied the bank account (she just doesn't understand how precious Louboutins are). They were my first pair and at Saks on Fifth Ave it was a necessary purchase. The Yankees were playing the Rangers and we had to take in at least one game while we were there... all four of us wearing the exact same blue Yankees hat (talk about being tourists haha) It was such a fun atmosphere though, I mean who doesn't love a beer and a hot dog while watching good looking men in baseball pants?? I DO. DAY 3: A lot of exploring and china town shopping happened on Day 3. Mid town as the locals like to call it (Times Square for us newbies) was packed with people and as soon as we got off the subway it was as if we stepped into a movie. It was the epitome of New York. It was my birthday weekend so we decided to go to get a little wild and go to a drag show called Lips NYC. That was the funniest show I have ever seen! The food was amazing and we didn't stop laughing (or blushing). It was sad to leave but we were all filled with stories and storage filled phones. The ladies that went with me on this unforgettable trip made it all the more special and I can speak for them when I say we will definitely take another trip together and will definitely be back to NEW YORK! I wanted to give you all my secrets and tricks to packing for a fun filled weekend in the city that never sleeps. There are some vacations that you don't have an agenda for and you just go with the flow... those vacations are for relaxing and beach laying. That will not be this trip. We pretty much have the entire New York experience jam packed into four days. My first step to packing for any trip is to make a list of all of the activities and the outfits I will wear during them (for safe measures I will put multiple outfits for one event). NY trip outfit list: Flight to: army green shift dress, black sandals, black floppy hat Shopping on 5th: grey and white tank, white denim, scarf, open toe booties Yankees Game: baseball t, boyfriend jeans, yankees hat, army green combat jacket Night on the Town: white long sleeve dress, nude trench coat, strappy heels OR nude pencil skirt, red crop Broadway: big black skirt, black tank, snakeskin heels, chunky necklace Flight home: comfortable romper, long grey cardigan, studded sandals I left space for my makeup, shower stuff, hair straightener, wand and anything I end up buying in New York (I know myself better than to think I won't buy anything). When packing, group the outfits together putting them in chronological order that way when you are actually on vacation you don't have to destroy your entire suitcase while searching for those jeans that go with that top.
Making lists always helps! I cannot wait to take tons of pictures and share with you all my first experience in New York! I love working in an atmosphere that I can dress professional. It gives me an excuse to buy all of the pencil skirts that my heart desires. This one is bright and the perfect length (midi) and surprisingly from Forever 21... Usually you wouldn't think to find business wear from a younger generation store like Forever 21 BUT I find stuff in there all the time!
SHOP THE LOOK skirt: Forever 21 | peplum top: The Limited | nude heels: similar HERE and HERE | watch: Michael Kors I hope you all had wonderful weekends spent with your mothers and families! Mine was spent at the beach and going through old pictures from my childhood... I never realized how much sass I actually had until I saw my diva pose in ALL of my pictures. I guess my mom should have known that I'd grow up to be the same sassy female.
One thing I love more than a weekend spent at the beach is the time I get to spend with my family. I was the only child to move away from home so we are a very close knit bunch. Because of finals and lots of new activities I hadn't gotten the chance to go home to celebrate my mothers birthday... She got double love this weekend (birthday AND Mother's Day) It was super hot this weekend... and by hot I mean that the burn time at Jax Beach was only 15 minutes. I decided to keep it light and airy with this super cute army green dress. Nude accents were the key to keeping it "springy" and my new little handbag from Target went perfectly. I'm big on getting the most for my money and I love talking about the deals I get on clothes. If you've ever watched extreme couponers you understand that there is a sort of exhilarating rush that accompanies buying something on sale or for a low price. This entire outfit cost less than $100 ($80 to be exact minus all jewelry!) That is unreal, when some of my shoes cost more than that. Dress: $25 | Sandals: $15 | Belt: $15 | Purse: $25 SHOP THE LOOK dress: Forever 21 | sandals: sold out, find name brand version here | belt: Target | purse: Target Lots of exciting things are in motion right now for me but that just means I'll have more opportunities to wear cuter outfits to share with you all. This afternoon I had an informal business lunch; I wanted my outfit to say that I am bright and cheery but well put together. I do believe that your outfit can speak for you... after all first impressions matter most. I've featured this top before on the blog but it is has such a beautiful shape and structure that I had to post again.
I am branching out of my comfort zone in business and am ready to work towards my goals (obvi being fashionable during the whole process). I know it'll take a lot of hard work, late nights and strong coffee but it will be worth it. Chase your dreams because you don't want to wake up after going to work at the same company you've been with for 20 years and wish you had just taken that first step towards a bigger reality. I sound like I am preaching but honestly you are never too young or too old to push yourself or to dream bigger. All of my life my mom has called me her "dreamer" and "risk taker" because I love the extremes in life and am willing to take big risks. I live big, I love hard and I have God to thank for all of it. I just wanted to share my two cents.... even though I probably gave you all the whole dollars worth of advice. Have a safe and beautiful weekend and look forward to a mothers day post! SHOP THE LOOK top: H&M (find similar HERE)| jeans: Nordstrom | shoes: Nordstrom Rack (find similar HERE) | necklace: Forever 21 We need to have a discussion about one of my favorite websites to shop on. Sheinside.com. The prices are unbeatable for the cutest clothes. Also they add roughly 40-50 new items to the site daily... DAILY. The green dress I wore to grab lunch and macarons was from Sheinside and was only $20! I've bought quite a few pieces from this website and they are all great quality. I'll be honest though, it takes a while for them to ship due to their 5-7 "processing" delay.
Shop the link I think you will enjoy! www.sheinside.com Who doesn't love a good romper? Weird people... that's who. This floral and aztec design is the perfect pair with one of my favorite clutches and my new flats! They may not be Valentino but they sure are cute. The best part of these shoes is that they were only $20. Yes. You read that correctly. 20. Freaking. Dollars. A pair of Valentino flats (linked here) which are VERY similar are $975. That is only a few hundred dollars less than my summer tuition for two classes. LOL. Talk about a splurge.
It is too beautiful outside today so I hope you all enjoy your Sundays and spend them wisely! Mine will be spent cleaning, doing laundry and shopping for my New York trip (details on what I am packing coming soon!)
