While I was shopping for furniture and decor for my room, I couldn't resist shopping for clothes too. (I am a shopaholic i know this) I needed a loose dress that was long enough to go with my knee high boots and the boots are fashionably edgy but if I wore the wrong thing with them they could end up looking trashy.
I paired my snakeskin clutch, that my grandma brought back from Spain, with a large chunky ring and I replaced the belt that came with the dress with a metal one that I had. This outfit is perfect for a night out with that special someone. It is sexy while still leaving a lot to the imagination. Just the way it should be! Dress - Forever 21 Boots - Altuzarra for Target buy them here or find a similar pair here Clutch - This clutch is from a small flea market in Spain but I found another snake skin clutch here Belt - Metal front belt in gold here (the one I am wearing is silver)

Taking a break from fashion I wanted to share with you all my latest project! Besides school, work and extracurriculars I have been busy redecorating my bedroom. This weekend I hit Ikea, Homegoods and At Home and found some really great pieces that tied it all together. My bestfriend and I moved into our cute two bedroom/two bathroom townhouse roughly six months ago and every room, including our office area, has been styled and decorated; every room except for mine. Enough was enough so I finally started my room makeover.
This decorating journey has been a challenge. My Ikea trip to get my WHITE chair went south quickly... As soon as I checked out and got the chair to my car, my normal size car, I tried placing the box in my back seat. This is a busy Ikea on a Saturday so there were cars already waiting for my spot and the persons spot next to me who happened to be leaving at the same time that I was trying to jam that large box into my car. As it dawned on me that I am going to have to remove the WHITE chair from the box in order for it to fit, two older gentlemen walk over and offer their assistance (they could clearly tell I was about to have a nervous breakdown in the middle of the parking lot). Normally I would try and handle this on my own but there were people waiting for my spot. No pressure. Once the chair was out of its box it was going to fit no problem... Only there was a problem. The chair is white and my car is black and was dirty. Not a good combination. As the gentleman slid the chair into the back seat it got a smudge of car dust on it. After a mini meltdown and a quick phone call to my mother (who calmed me down and told me how to get the smudge out) I cleaned it up and thankfully it looked as good as new. I still have a ways to go and a few more items to buy but I think it is coming along and finally feels full of my personality. I love coming home to my new space. Item Details: Wood piece above my headboard: Homegoods White Chair: Ikea White furry pillow: At Home Good Morning Gorgeous pillow: Homegoods Mint throw: Homegoods Bedspread: JC Penney Lamp: Ross Silver Vase: Ross Mint candle: Homegoods After a long and I mean LONG week, nothing excites me more than getting to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. Shopping is definitely on the list of things to do this weekend! The Limited is having a store wide sale and their new Scandal collection was released in store yesterday. Kerry Washington's outfits in Scandal are to die for and if you haven't watched that show you need to! Discount ALERT!! The Limited is currently offering 40% off full priced items and an extra 50% off already marked down sale items! Also, if you are their email list you should have received an email with a discount code for 25% off of the new Scandal Collection. So if I were you I would open all of their emails because they usually send some great discounts! Even though I am excited to spend a lot of time in my jammies, I am just as excited to wear a few bold pieces from my closet while I shop till i drop. The weather has been a little chilly but that won't stop me from wearing one of my favorite rompers. Ill add a black blazer or a leather jacket I got from H&M if I need to. The green sweater in my second look is perfectly contrasted with the brighter plaid scarf and dark skinnies. I always have an arm party going on and the details for that and both looks can be found in my LookBook. Romper - This was an amazing find at Marshalls; I found another one that I can't wait to buy here, Hat - Target Green Sweater - Forever 21, Dark high wasted jeans - Charlotte Russe, Scarf - Forever 21 but find a similar one here
Arm Party!!! Watch - Michael Kors, bangle - Michael Kors, bracelets - Old Navy in store only This week is a stressful one to say the least. I have four homework assignments, two tests, one quiz and one project to complete all by Thursday, but instead of deciding to wear leggings and t-shirts to work, to school and to bed, my goal is to dress comfortable but fashionable. Quick throw on outfits are the best. Leggings are also the best. A few of my favorite "library looks" -
TOP LEFT: Button up - Target, Loose Tank - Target, Leggings - Forever 21, Flats - Forever 21
TOP RIGHT: Funky t-shirt - I found another one on Etsy here, Boyfriend Jeans are from American Eagle and there is a similar destroyed pair from Nordstrom, Espadrilles are from Target BOTTOM LEFT: Sweater - Old Navy but it is sold out, find a similar one here, Jeans - Forever 21, Booties - I found these at Ross but find a very similar pair from TOMS here BOTTOM RIGHT: Yoga leggings - Forever 21, Pullover - Underarmour, Hat - Polo found at Macy's, Old Nikes but I really need a pair of Roshes (I like these teal ones) If you were walking down the road (go along with me here) and you come across a man who is dressed in a bright orange jumpsuit and as you got closer to him you start to make out wording on the jumpsuit, it becomes clear that this is a prison jumpsuit. Do you turn and run the other direction? Let me answer that for you... HECK YES! You run as fast as your legs can take you. That man is obviously someone you never want to meet. I blatantly judged this fictional man based on his clothing. He could be an innocent person who was wrongly convicted of a crime but my point to this scenario is that the way you dress greatly contributes to the first impression you make. My advice to you is to dress how you want to be addressed. Engineering is a male dominated field and when I first entered the industry I had to prove my capabilities. Dressing professional helped me gain respect and validate that I deserved a seat at the table with the big boys. "Dressing professional" doesn't mean boring or that I had to take my style out of my wardrobe. In fact, I actually have fun putting together looks that are classy but still full of my personality. That personality includes a lot of pink and a lot of neutrals. Outfit details: Skirt is from Love Culture there is a similar one here, Blouse is old but the laptop case and shoes are both from Nordstrom. These lazor cut BCBGeneration heels are a work of art and because they are so versatile they play well with the other patterns.
Welcome to A Nerd in Pearls!! Yes I am the nerd. Yes I own pearls. I am a college student in her twenties who is majoring in aerospace engineering and mathematics. All of my life I have been good in school and by good I mean, top of her class, scholarships left and right and a 4.0 GPA (hence the term nerd). BUT... just because I have the ability to calculate the velocity of a fluid and derive any equation thrown my way does not mean that I can't rock the mess out of a brand new handbag. Trust me, I can, I have and I will.
Fashion is everything to me and being a full time college student who also works 25 hours a week can make it challenging to always dress to the nines. I have learned ways to look like I spent hours getting ready when really it took me fifteen minutes and when your schedule is as busy as mine, those extra hours of sleep mean the world. This blog will be a collection of my wants, my wears, my beauty tips and my advice on how to transition from dressing like a young college student to dressing like a woman who is entering the next phase in her life and career. |
I am a college student in engineering and I love it, but my real passion is fashion. I am obsessed with all things neutral, all black clothing, expensive hand bags, and shoes with red bottoms.
