Layering Jewelry

Layering jewelry can be tricky but it can also be fun! The rules are simple... If you are going to layer it up, keep it dainty. Pick necklaces with different lengths and shapes that way none of them collide. Also apply that same mentality when you are choosing bracelets to wear. Now a days it is absolutely 100% ok to mix gold and silver. I actually encourage it! Designers like David Yurman are big on mixing the two.

Layer all kinds of things.. rings, bracelets, necklaces, you name it!

Clothes can be Comfy AND Cute

Most college students understand what it means to be in "finals mode." Basically it means that you live in the library, eat whatever fast food is closest to the library, live in the same outfit for more than 48 hours and drink so much coffee that you could sweat it. On top of all this chaos I decided to squeeze in a trip to North Carolina... My body is going to hate me for getting such little sleep. If I am stuck in the library for consecutive hours as I prepare for these make it or break it exams I am going to want to be in comfortable clothes. It is evident that other students feel the same... the typical library uniform for female students is yoga pants, t-shirt and sandals. I completely understand the lack of effort needed but clothes can be comfy and cute at the same time. The outfit above is loose enough to be worn for long periods of time and these high wasted pants are stretchy enough to enable me to sit criss-cross applesauce in the library chairs.

Good Luck to all of you during exam week and to those of you who are no longer in school and already graduated... pray for us! (haha kidding... but seriously)

I wear white when I want to wear white

There is a rule about wearing white and labor day and I never know how it goes... "Never wear white after Labor Day" or "Only wear white after Labor Day"... either way I would still be confused on when to wear white. It's a good thing I don't know the rule because I wear white when I want to. These pants are absolutely fabulous and it would be a shame to only have certain months to wear them in. They are oh so "Olivia Pope" (Scandal anyone??). Literally they are straight from the Scandal collection at The Limited and right now The Limited has $15 off every $50 you spend!! Go Go Go!

Follow your own fashion rules... not everyone else's.

Splurge or Steal?

4/12/2015

I am a college student. One who works 25 hours a week and goes to school full time. One who also pays most of her bills. I do not have the funds to blow my money on extremely expensive items. (I will splurge every now and then) I tend to try and find great pieces for the lesser amount and usually they are extremely similar to what the top name brands are selling.

Lets play a little game of SPLURGE or STEAL!
Picture
SPLURGE | Tory Burch
$135

Picture
SPLURGE | Vince Camuto
$98

Picture
SPLURGE | ASOS
$48
Picture
STEAL!!!! | Target
 $18 (marked down in store)

Picture
STEAL!!! | Target
$18 (marked down in store)

Picture
STEAL!!! | Sheinside
$11.99

My point to this little game was to prove that you can get good quality clothing that looks just like the designer pieces. It just takes a little effort to find the amazing deals!!

IKEA Saturday

The weekends are my only time to sleep in, so at about 1030 this morning I roll over with my eyes half open and see a missed call and a text message from my sister. She was on her way to IKEA with her whole family. The IKEA is about 20 minutes from my house and like 2 and a half hours from theirs. I was super excited to get to see them so I jumped out of bed and threw on a comfy outfit and I didn't want to have to do my hair (nor did I have time) so it was definitely a hat kind of day (that seems to happen more and more frequently these days).

These are shorts I have had for a really long time... actually a Goodwill Levi Jean find that I turned into shorts. They remind me of the boyfriend midi shorts that are growing more popular. I recently found a pair from Target that I will have to go back and buy. "Nothing haunts you more than the things you didn't buy"

Thursday Blues

Thursday. Friday eve as I like to call it. Another day filled with tests and quizzes while it is absolutely beautiful outside. Therefore I have the Thursday blues. Even though I will be the boring college student today (not the world traveler that I want to be) I'm actually madly in love with the simplicity of this outfit and will definitely be repeating it again sometime soon!

These grey wrap pumps were such a unique find and I couldn't have asked for a better price (obvi besides if they were free). I bought them at Ross but the trick to finding quality pieces at places like Marshalls or TJMaxx or Ross is you have to visit them frequently and at different times during the day. Another suggestion I can give is to ask the manager or a store clerk when each store gets their shipment in and when they actually restock their shelves. Go that same day!

Shine Bright!

What a beautiful day it is!! If I didn't have class or 101 different errands to run along with studying for a test (kill me now) I would spend the entire day outside! Just because I'll be stuck inside doesn't mean my outfit can't be bright and cheery. In fact it'll probably make the day easier.

I was contacted by an AHHMAZING designer a few weeks ago who was so kind to discount her clothing for me!

Rachel Turzer the designer and creator of Kora Rae not only pushes the limits of fashion but with every purchase she donates a portion to the National Tiger Sanctuary in Saddlebrooke, Missouri. She also adopted and rescued an 8-month old tiger and named her Kora, who has become the symbol of her company. It is a beautiful story with an even greater cause. She shipped the shorts I'm wearing in this outfit the day I ordered them and with my purchase sent me a hand written note of appreciation. I will definitely continue to buy from her based on the expert level of customer service and it also helps that I am completely obsessed with her clothing :) !!

Y'all have a beautiful and bright day!

Go to her site! korarae.com

Outfit details: Find a beautiful yellow top here (Use the code FRIENDS for an extra 40% off!), Shorts are obviously Kora Rae, pair this outfit with any bright clutch my suggestions are here (inexpensive), here (moderate)  and here (pricey)

Happy Easter!

I hope you all had wonderful Easters spent with your family and loved ones! Mine was wonderful but a little different than normal, which was a nice change of pace. Usually my Grandma cooks enough food to feed an army and we have a formal sit down dinner with fine china and candles. All very stuffy when really my family is as goofy as it gets. This year it was such a beautiful weekend that we had a sort of picnic outside and it was very relaxed with easy conversation. My niece especially enjoyed it because after we ate she got to re-hide her Easter eggs and have the adults try to find them!

Thank goodness I brought two different dresses home to choose from, one being well constructed and dressy and the other being a loose jersey cotton maxi dress.

I ended up wearing the green maxi dress because I'm an occasional dresser; meaning I dress for the occasion! A picnic definitely calls for a comfy maxi.

Both outfits are pictured and the lovely lady beside me in the picture is my sister... She has a blog of her own for mothers who are still chic even after they have children! She is extremely creative and crafty when it comes to stretching a budget.

Get your sweat on!

4/2/2015

It is so important to work out! But it is even more important to stay hydrated while doing so. I recently experienced some muscle damage due to dehydration and it was horrible!

My hospital visit was short lived but I am so happy that it is over... And I know my family is too! The doctor expressed that if I am going to continue to work out towards my "summer body" (all of the medical students laughed as I said that's why I was working out) that I need to drink as much water as possible.

*On a side note*... It is always practical to wear cute underwear, so that if you find yourself in a hospital for abdominal pain and you have to wear a hospital gown at least when the back of the gown is open the staff can appreciate your adorable undies as opposed to your night time granny panties. Learn from my mistakes people!

So get your sweat on BUT make sure you replace that sweat with water!
